I've said it before and I'll say it again: To whomever has their finger on the calendar's fast-forward button, cut it out!!
No fencing this Friday, May 28, through Monday, May 31. Have a great extended weekend and we'll start back up again on Tuesday, June 1!
The June equipment order is going in first thing on Thursday, June 3. As usual, Absolute is the preferred vendor but if you want something from somewhere else, let me know and I'll see what I can do so you still don't have to pay shipping. Orders, including payment, are due to me no later than 10 p.m. Wednesday, June 2.
Speaking of payment, the clubs' order pages are up and running with the new rates.
The June IWFC classes have been scheduled! The beginner class will start on Monday, June 14, and the intermediate class will start on Tuesday, June 1. The beginner class meets on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 and runs ten sessions long, ending on Wednesday, July 7. The intermediate class meets on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 and runs eight sessions, ending on June 25. The fee for either class is $60 per fencer and equipment can be either rented or purchased. Email coach@iwfc.net to register (or if you have any questions).
The calendar page got a little off but it's being beaten back into submission in my spare time. (Okay, you can stop laughing now.)

New class starts tonight - 17 May 10
Don't forget, the next beginner class at IWFC starts tonight. If you want to take the class but forgot to register, you still have time to dash off an email with the name and age of the fencer(s) and whether equipment will be purchased or rented. (Details on pricing are in earlier updates -- scroll down for more info.) And if all else fails, you're welcome to just show up tonight at 6:00 and we'll get you taken care of!
Free tickets! I have a few free gate passes to the Virginia Renaissance Faire up for grabs. As usual, first come, first served! If you can't get one of the gate passes for any reason, no worries -- gate's only $8 anyway. Opening weekend was grand fun and we just get better every weekend! I hope to see you there!

New toys and other fun and games - 4 May 2010
Don't forget to send in your equipment order no later than 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 5. Ordered items will be in hand by the weekend.
Scott road-tripped down to Greensboro, NC, last weekend to compete in the Southeast Sectionals, a large event encompassing fencers from Divisions all over the Southeast. Sounds like conditions were miserable but he put in a couple of good days of fencing regardless! Full results can be seen here.
It's that time o' year again! If you've been around me for more than five minutes lately, you've probably heard me talk about my 'other job' at the Virginia Renaissance Faire. The faire runs every weekend from May 15 through June 13 at the Lake Anna Winery in Spotsylvania. Parents, don't tell your kids but the faire is also educational! In addition to the living history aspect, we also have quests and contests to encourage interest and interaction. Kids, don't tell your parents but the faire is also a darned lot of fun, with games and performers and music and lots of general silliness! Admission's only $8 (ages 5 and under get in free). If you have any questions, just ask away!
