The May beginner fencing class at IWFC starts Monday, May 2. There's still time to sign up -- just send an email or leave a message at 238-3111. Sessions are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 and the class is ten sessions long. The cost is $60 plus equipment which can be either rented ($30 per month plus glove) or purchased (starting at $110).
Have you been wanting to try your hand at epee? May's intermediate class at IWFC is what you're looking for! Classes are Tuesday and Friday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 and the cost is $60. All epee-specific equipment is provided. Email or leave a message at 238-3111 to register.
The May equipment order goes in this Wednesday, May 4. Orders are due to me by 10 p.m. that night and can be turned in either at practice or via email. As usual, the preferred vendor is Absolute. If you have questions about anything, just ask!
We've had a busy couple of weekends at tournaments with more to come! Scott and Bill fenced in last weekend's tournament at W&M with Scott placing fifth in foil and second in epee. This was Bill's first time out and he fenced better in each bout as the day went along so I expect we'll see him at future tournaments! Rhiannon fenced in this weekend's "E"stravaganza in Manassas against a large field of foilists, turning in a solid performance in both pools and DEs. W&M results are here and Manassas results are here.
Want to create some results of your own? Next weekend is the Battle of Spotsylvania Veteran's Tournament (including its day-long tasting buffet!) in Spotsylvania on May 7 and the RFF Ladies Spring Open in Manassas on May 8. Fencers must be 40 as of December 31, 2010, to be veterans and must be, well, female to fence in the women's event. Although I won't be available for either event (either to coach or to compete), let me know if you're planning on entering and I'll do everything I can to help you prepare beforehand.
